YOUR LOGO IS NOT YOUR BRAND, YOUR CULTURE IS YOUR BRAND

As a marketer, clients come to Sodablue for marketing advice, strategy, guidance and development. Some are wanting to start their own businesses, to hit the market guns blazing while others are wishing to revamp their current marketing strategy. This usually follows with the statement, ‘I want to create a brand/revitalise my brand’ and due to a common misconception, clients are asking for a logo.

In the world of business, it is hugely misunderstood that your logo is in fact, your brand. That creating a logo will be grounds for success or that revamping a logo will completely reshape public perception of your business when in reality, your logo is just the tip of the iceberg.

What is a logo?

Your logo is your identifier, your visual brand signature. It is the cherry on top the cupcake; it stands out, it looks good and it draws people in. Certainly, a logo is an integral part of a business; it is an element that is vital to distinguish your brand amongst the huge amount of clutter that bombards consumers on a daily basis. A good logo should express who you are but it’s simply a mark that represents you, which cannot speak for you or define your organisations personality.

What is a brand?

A brand is an expression of your organisations personality. It is what people say about your business behind your back. Your brand is the way in which the world perceives the way you do business. Your strategy, your product/service, your identity, your feel, your customer service, the way you communicate, social media, your facilities and your people, is what makes your brand.

Brand = Culture

Therefore, the culture of your business is what makes up your brand; brand equals culture. The way in which your business conducts itself is at the very core of your organisation’s brand. It goes so much deeper than the visual representation of a logo and while it’s important to have a well designed, focussed logo that represents the elements of your brand/organisation, it is simply the foundation for which all your other business elements are developed.
